Young Playwrights Festival

Walden Theatre announces the annual Young Playwrights Festival, featuring a range of plays directed by Julane Havens, Hallie Kirk, Stacey Mead,  Sabrina Spalding, and Alec Volz.

Every February, the best works by students in Walden Theatre’s New Voices Playwriting class are presented in this  long-running festival and performed by actors from Walden’s Conservatory acting program. The playwriting program was among the first of its kind in the country (established in 1982) and several writers featured in the festival have gone on to work for both stage and screen.

This year’s lineup includes plays by the following young writers:

Alexandra Chand
Maggie Eskridge
Juan-Carlos Hernandez
Chris Hammon
Ian Jackson
Alex Parobek
Katie Scott
Allison Spanyer
Serena Stoddard

Walden Theatre has a long tradition of supporting and staging the plays of playwrights, but this is just the second year for the New Voices Playwriting Class, a collaboration between Walden Theatre and Actors Theatre of Louisville Education staff. Students in the class are given opportunities to experience plays at Actors Theatre, and have the chance to meet playwrights in town for the Humana Festival of New American Plays each spring.
