Walden Theatre is one of the top Conservatory programs for youth theatre arts in the United States. And it’s right here in Louisville.

Walden Theatre was created in 1976 to give young people the opportunity to grow and develop through the comprehensive study of theatre. Its continuing success is built on respect for young people’s enormous ability to learn and achieve, and grounded in its regard for theatre as a mirror on the world.

Through nationally recognized Conservatory and Outreach Programs, Walden Theatre creates more than 133 public performance opportunities for students – ranging from Shakespeare, Shaw, and Aesop to contemporary world-premiere productions and student written plays. More than 12,000 students annually take part in Walden Theatre programming through after-school conservatory classes, in-school productions and interdisciplinary instruction in core subjects like history and literature, and in fun summer camps and acting instruction.
