LOCATION: Nancy Niles Sexton Stage at Walden Theatre
Walden Theatre and Blue Apple Players are working together to become the region’s most comprehensive theatre conservatory and education provider for school children, their families, and teachers.
And now, thanks to a grant by the SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration (NYC), we have the opportunity to secure generous support for the merger process.
Gifts made to Walden/Blue Apple by December 31st go toward a $30,000 challenge goal required to secure this prestigious national foundation’s support. Our merger was selected as one of only 18 funded projects in the last 5 years, and it’s only the fourth arts organization to ever receive a grant.
Your tax-deductible gift of support and your leadership in sharing this challenge with friends & colleagues ensures that we can meet this challenge.
Walden Theatre and Blue Apple Players were each founded in 1976 and have worked closely together for nearly a decade – collaborating on public school programs, productions, training, fund development and arts advocacy. We share a proud history of developing generations of collaborative, empathetic, confident, and creative young people using the power of drama education. Together, our goal is to deliver the highest quality programs and strongest achievable outcomes to more children, more families, more teachers and more schools by maximizing the financial, artistic and educational strengths of our two organizations.
Please join Walden Theatre for a special reunion event Saturday Dec 20 from 5:30-7:30 and help us celebrate our long heritage of quality theatre instruction, ground-breaking productions, and talented individuals.

Event includes food, drinks, a showcase from the Walden Theatre archives, and of course mixing with long lost and familiar old friends and more.
This is a non-ticketed event between performances of the Walden Theatre Staff Showcase production Uncle Vanya (2pm matinee and 7:30pm evening show). The Staff Showcase that features Charlie Sexton, current staff/alumni actors, and our comrades from Blue Apple Players.
We’re also celebrating our upcoming merger with Blue Apple Players, and their staff and board will be joining us for this event. This is a great opportunity to share our traditions and stories with new partners as we continue to offer the finest Theatre Conservatory program of its kind in the nation.
Our goal for this year’s Fall Fundraiser at ReSurfaced was $15,000. And after adding everything up it looks like your raffle ticket sales, silent auction donations & bids, beer purchases at ReSurfaced, cash donations, and merch/bake sales pushed us over the top. WAAAAY over the top.
The grand total came to:
This year was already unique as we gave the Chili Supper a break and took a chance on partnering with the good people of ReSurfaced. Not only did the event get great press (including a hit on WDRB in the morning!) and great attendance from all of you, we also got our mission, our students, and our Revenge of Lenore performance in front of new faces during ReSurfaced’s busy final weekend. And we had beautiful weather in late October.
Thanks to everyone who made this amazing event a reality.
As the headline indicates, Apprentice and Studio classes FRIDAY WILL BE DISMISSED at 5:30pm.
This gives everyone time to pick up kids and get down to ReSurfaced for the good times. We hope everyone can come straight on down to ReSurfaced on the 600 block of Main Street (behind the empty facades) to kick the party off right!
For families and students unable to attend, please make alternative plans for pick up from Walden Theatre at 5:30pm. Thanks everyone!
Our last email looking ahead to our Fall Fundraiser event at ReSurfaced on October 24 mentioned INCENTIVES for turning in Raffle Tickets early. So here goes:
- All students who turn in their completed allotment of sold raffle tickets by Wednesday, October 22 receive 5 hard-core points on the spot. Boom, already a winner.
- All entrants who meet above criteria are entered into an exclusive early drawing for one of the following:
- Free T-Shirt or hoodie of winner’s choice PLUS 20 bonus hard-core points
- OR an advanced student (Tue-Thu classes) can win a place in both sessions of Charlie and Julane’s Audition Workshop offered as part of Slant Culture Theatre Festival (more on this below)
And as you can see, we need to get these raffle ticket sales up! This is a huge source of support for Walden Theatre scholarships and programming, so be one of the good folks who make the Walden Theatre experience attainable for so many kids!
And don’t forget to talk up the great prizes on offer in the Raffle Drawing, including:
- $1,000 CASH
- Kentucky Kingdom Season Passes (4)
- Apple Gift Cards
- FREE TUITION for a semester
- and more door prizes
(Grand Prize and runner up winners don’t have to be present to win, but it’s more fun if they are!)
