Challenge Grant: Let’s rise to meet it!

Walden Theatre and Blue Apple Players are working together to become the region’s most comprehensive theatre conservatory and education provider for school children, their families, and teachers.

And now, thanks to a grant by the SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration (NYC), we have the opportunity to secure generous support for the merger process.

Donate-30k
Gifts made to Walden/Blue Apple by December 31st go toward a $30,000 challenge goal required to secure this prestigious national foundation’s support. Our merger was selected as one of only 18 funded projects in the last 5 years, and it’s only the fourth arts organization to ever receive a grant.

Your tax-deductible gift of support and your leadership in sharing this challenge with friends & colleagues ensures that we can meet this challenge.

Walden Theatre and Blue Apple Players were each founded in 1976 and have worked closely together for nearly a decade – collaborating on public school programs, productions, training, fund development and arts advocacy. We share a proud history of developing generations of collaborative, empathetic, confident, and creative young people using the power of drama education. Together, our goal is to deliver the highest quality programs and strongest achievable outcomes to more children, more families, more teachers and more schools by maximizing the financial, artistic and educational strengths of our two organizations.

Pericles

Pericles

Walden Theatre remounts the William Shakespeare romance Pericles, Prince of Tyre as part of Kentucky Shakespeare’s Community Partners portion of their annual Festival in Old Louisville’s Central Park.

Here’s a bit about the play:

A Greek prince fleeing an evil king sails the seas in this tale of triumphant rescues, beautiful maidens, and great personal tragedy. Will determination, wit, and divine intervention see the prince’s family restored to him?

The play is on the C. Douglas Ramey Stage at Central Park August 6, 8, and 10. Pre-show fun and entertainment begins at 7:15, and Pericles begins at 8:00pm. All shows are free, but donations are encouraged and drinks are available.

See you at the park!

OUR Louisville

Banner-Our_LouisvilleThis summer, Walden Theatre collaborated with Louisville Visual Art Association and Kentucky Shakespeare to provide students at three Metro Parks community centers with an engaging, interdisciplinary program that helped young people find their voices.

During the seven-week Our Louisville program, students from Parkhill, Shelby, and Southwick Community Centers worked with theatre artists to create original plays that explore their perspectives on the community in which they live—along the way envisioning how that community could change for the better.

The residency involved 16 sessions, with students ages 5-13 participating in drama, movement, and visual arts. Our Louisville culminates in a free performance:

Central Park
C. Douglas Ramey Amphitheater
August 7 at 7:15pm

(ahead of the Kentucky Shakespeare Community Partners performance of
As You Like It by Le Petomane Theatre Ensemble)

In addition to theatre instruction, visual artists worked with participants to create a piece of art that serves as a backdrop for the final performance. In Central Park, participants from all three community centers will perform—sharing a varied youth perspective on our city and reminding grown-ups and kids alike that positive change IS possible.
